    Engel v. Vitale - Prayer Violation
    This event took place in 1962 and was one of the first dividing principles of public expression of religious beliefs. 10 parents from one of the public schools filed a lawsuit on grounds that the school prayers are conflicting with their religious preferences at home. Conducting open prayer’s at school forces each student to adapt to the prayer being recited, disregarding their own personal beliefs, which is a violation of the first amendment.

    During this time, there a vast amount Cuban children immigrating to the United States. In order to provide proper education, Coral Way Elementary school began the evolution of bilingual and bicultural public schools.

    This was one of the biggest movements in all of history! Civil rights movement granted every American equal right and prevented discrimination on race, color, sex, religion or national origin. If it wasn’t for the civil rights movement, the 21st century we live in today would be a completely different era filled with extremists’ groups causing hate and disruption.

    Project Head Start is a preschool education program for children from low-income families during the summer. This program is eight-weeks long throughout the summer geared towards providing academic and social support services to children.

    This initiative was established to financially support the needs of bilingual students and programs such as Title I. During this time, the “War on Poverty” was taking place and federal funding was granted to help low-income students sustain education.
