    Coral Way Elementary provided equality within the bilingual and bicultural community. As more Cuban immigrant children arrived in Miami, Coral Way decided to address the multicultural education needs of their students in order for them to succeed in school.

She continued to fight for equality as well as introduced over 50 pieces of legislation. Shirley Chisholm retired from Congress in 1983 and went on teach at Mount Holyoke College. The history of Shirley Chisholm and her experiences in Congress impact multicultural education by revealing to students the accomplishments anyone is capable of achieving no matter their race or gender.
