History of Microscope Improvement

By bvdk
  • Robert Hooke gave the name "cells" to the box-like structures he observed in the cork tissue.

Hooke saw that both plants and animals were compromised of cells and this has helped our understanding of living things.
  • Anto Von Leeuwenhoek created a second microscope

    It could magnify 266 times
  • Joseph Jackson Lister created the chromatic effect

Several weak lenses used together at different distances provided good magnification without a blurry image.
  • Modern Microscope Invention

Could magnify up to 1,000 times
  • Ernest Ruska created the first electron microscope

Able to magnify up to 500 000 times
  • Frits Zernike created the Phase Contrast Microscope

    Allows to image transparent specimen
  • Scanning Electron Microscope Invention

Able to magnify up to 150 000 times
