  • Samuel Gompers

    Samuel Gompers
    Even though he was English he contributed a lot in America. He was the American Labor Union leader. Gompers was the one that found the AFL (American Federation of Labor) and also promoted many different crafts unions.

    This organization was mainly formed to secure and make sure no one violates the rights of workers. It was also made to give workers more benefits and maintain a good relationship between the employees and employers.

    This was a huge spin to America after many days of protesting for Labor Day to actually become a holiday. It took place in New York City. This is day dedicated to American workers, dedicated to all their social and economics achievements that have been completed through out the past decades and centuries.

    It's like main company that managed all the unions of labor all across the United States of America. The alliance of craft unions created crated this national association at Ohio, Columbus.

    It was a strike that affected the whole nation. It took place at the rail roads and workers were protesting for the US labor law. It was the whole American Railway union against the Pullman company.
  • Shirtwaist Factory Fire

    Shirtwaist Factory Fire
    It was one of the worst labor factories disasters. Some people even said it was done in purpose not accidentally. It had bad working conditions and didn't have safety rules. It took place in Manhattan, New York City and it was one of the deadliest that have ever occurred.

    This bill was pretty much passed and signed by President Roosevelt. It established a great relationship between unions of employees and employers also assigned it to a private sector.

    Fair Labor Standards Act of  1938
    This act helped the workers a lot it improved working conditions, minimum wages, overtime pay, record keeping, and youth employment standards stopping child labor. It improved a lot to workers, specially to the ones that worked at factories with way below minimum wages.

    This Law it's what we know started the federal law that mainly restricts the activities and power of labor unions. It was brought by Senator Robert A. Taft and representative Fred A. Hartley, Jr. that's why it took the name Taft-Hartley Act.
  • Steel Strike of 1959

    Steel Strike of 1959
    It was a huge strike that was lead by the United Steel Workers of America against Steel making companies. It was all over the nation, workers were striking for more job benefits, better worker conditions and higher wages and also against new work rules that were violating the workers' rights.
