  • The Brown Box

    The Brown Box
    The Brown Box gmaing console was invented by Ralph Baer ( television engineer) and his co-workers. The first video game console that works on a standard television.
  • Odyssey

    Odyssey
    The Odyssey was invented by Baer's team again after the making of The Brown Box (the first gaming console). It uses six cartridges to play up to 12 games featuring dots and lines on the screen. Many TV dealers fail to see its potential, making the Odyssey's novelty part of it's downfall.
  • Pong

    Pong
    Pong was founded in June 1972 by Nolan Bushnell. Pong was more of an Arcade game that you would most likely play in an arcade or at a pub. It is one of the earliest Arcade games made. It is sort of a tennis sports game featuring two- dimensional graphics.
  • Pong (Home Edition)

    Pong (Home Edition)
    Pong (Home edition) was invented after the game of Pong was invented by Nolan Bushnell. They though that the Pong arcade game was so popular that they decided to make a home edition. It was mainly sold in the store Sears.
  • Altari 2600 VCS

    Altari 2600 VCS
    Nolan Bushnell's company Altari started to work on the Altari 2600 VCS. After Nolan Bushnell sold Altari to Warner Communications in 1976, Warner backs the idea of the Altari 2600 VCS. It has an big hit with the games including Space Invaders, Breakout, Combat and Missile Command.
  • Intellivision

    Intellivision
    The company Mattel released the Intellivison game console in 1980. It was the first challenge to Altari's popular gaming consoles. After it came out it was the start to an early 80's gaming console war between the companies Atari and Mattel.
  • Nintendo Entertainment System

    Nintendo Entertainment System
    The company Nintendo releases the Nintendo Entertainment System (also known as 'NES') in 1985 in the U.S. With all the games they came out with for the NES it soon broke the sales records and became the best-selling games console in video-game history.
  • Game Boy

    Game Boy
    Nintendo then releases another popular games console, Game Boy, in 1989. It was the first major handheld games console. With the release of Tetris (a game) for the Game Boy, the sales went sky high. They then gave the Game Boy several 'make overs' they released it in different colours. That includes the Game Boy Pocket that was released in 1996 and the Game Boy Color in 1998.
  • Neo- Geo

    Neo- Geo
    The Neo- Geo was released in 1990 by a Japanese company called SNK. It has huge 2-D detailed graphics. Neo- Geo's appeal is its arcade-level quality for use in a home system.
  • Super NES

    Super NES
    The Super NES was released by Nintendo in 1991. It is a 16-bit video game console that was released by Nintendo in North America, Europe, Australasia (Oceania), and South America. In Japan and Southeast Asia, the system is called the Super Famicom. The Super Nintendo Entertainment System was Nintendo's second home console, following the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). The console introduced advanced graphics and sound capabilities compared with other consoles at the time.
