    Trephination

"Nonconformity" or "abnormal behavior" were thought to be caused by demonic possession, which was only curable only by religious exorcisms. The trephination procedure was typically done on the subject against their will. I chose this topic because the idea of demonic possession caught my attention while watching the video.
  • Tuskeegee Syphilis Study

In Macon County, Alabama, more than 600 black farmers were studied by the U.S. Public Health Service, "To document diseases in blacks, and racial differences in the clinical manifestations of syphilis. They weren't treated or helped during this time period, they were only observed, and left for dead. This event caught my attention because in my opinion it is very wrong that these farmers were observed for syphilis but were never treated.
Side note: This took place between 1932-1972.
  • Nazi Concentration Camp Experiments

These experiments consisted of sleep deprivation, starvation, unnecessary surgeries without anesthesia, and forced to be submissive to physical, emotional, and psychological torture. This was premeditated murder, masqueraded as "experiments" and "research". These "experiments" were performed on homosexuals, blacks, and jews. This topic bothered me and caught my attention as a whole, because of the homophobia, racism, and the torture that was inflicted
Side note: This took place between 1935-1945
  • Tearoom Trade Study

A researcher named Laud Humphreys pretended to be a part of a homosexual community in order to observe the behaviors of homosexual men. Humphreys gathered evidence that many of the men taking part in homosexual activities, led normal everyday lives. I found this event humorous because people in the 70s were so uneducated on the concept of homosexual people to the point where heterosexual people believed that there was something mentally or psychologically wrong with a homosexual person.
