Noah Webster wanted to get rid of British textbooks since we had just gone through the revolutionary war. He also wrote the blue-backed speller which basically turned into the Webster dictionary we have today.

MOST IMPORTANT! Horace Mann helped change education forever with his idea that students should all have the right to public education free of charge. MOST IMPORTANT! John Dewey was a big influence on teaching and founded the idea of 'whole body' teaching. Whole body teaching got the students more engaged and doing hands on activities. MOST IMPORTANT! This Supreme Court case said that having separate but equal schools was not constitutional. Meaning that students could not be separate based on race. This case overturned the court case Plessy v. Ferguson which allowed segregation. Today we no longer have segregated schools thanks to this court case.

This was a big step for education because prior to this children that had disabilities weren't being treated the same as other students.
