Education in the 17th century was not required. Many Americans had the dream of getting an education. Most children in the 17th century had to work at home or on their families farm. Even children that lived a luxurious life, got education taught to them by a family member.

In 1896 the, US Supreme Court rules that the state of Louisiana has the right to require “separate but equal” Railroad cars for blacks and whites. One result is that southern states pass laws requiring racial segregation in public schools.

In Little Rock, Arkansas, Governor Orval Faubus he sends his national guard to physically prevent nine African-American students from enrolling in an all white Central high school. President Eisenhower then sends federal troops to enforce the court order. He does this not because he supports deceleration but because he cannot live the state governor use military power to defend the U.S. federal government.
