  • 1607

    The first permanent settlement was established in by the Virginia company now in Virginia
  • 1620

    The pilgrims arrived in the mayflower at cape cod. They established Plymouth colony. They fled from religious persecution in England and was important in England colonies.

    The first Latin grammar school was named Boston Latin school was established. Latin grammar schools were designed for certain leader positions in churches, states, or courts.

    The first free school in Virginia opened but the education in the southern colonies is typically provided at home by parents or tutors.

    Harvard college, the first education institution which is now US is now established in new town. Which is now cane bridge Massachusetts.
  • 1647

    The Massachusetts law of 1647 also known as old deluder was passed. There was a school master who would teach the towns children to read and write, and should learn Latin grammar in hope to prepare students to attend Harvard college.

    John Locke published his essay concerning human understanding to convey his belief that the human mind is tabularara or blank slate at birth. Locke believes that knowledge is derived through experience rather then in ideas innate.

    The first New England primer is printed in Boston which is now used school book in New England.
  • 1693

    The college of William and Mary was established in Virginia and now is the second college to open in colonial America and has the destination of being Thomas Jefferson college.
  • 1743

    Benjamin Franklin forms the American philosophical society which helps bring ideas of the European enlightment including those of John Locke to colonial America. These ideas clash with the religious dogma of the day.
