    First Public High School Opens
    In 1928 in Boston the first public high school was opened as an alterntative to the private acadamies. It became known as English High School and had a three year english cirriculum.

    After the HighSchool for Girls opened in 1826 and then closed in 1828 this was the first time young women had the chance to go to a public school.

    The Committee of Ten was created by the NAE to help define what a good secondary education was. They helped determine the cirriculum that was needed in the secondary schools so there was some type of uniform learning.
