First Public High School Opens
In 1928 in Boston the first public high school was opened as an alterntative to the private acadamies. It became known as English High School and had a three year english cirriculum. -
Massachusetts mandates High School
The state of Massachusetts passes a law that requires all towns to provide free, public secondary education. -
Boston Girls High and Normal School Opens
After the HighSchool for Girls opened in 1826 and then closed in 1828 this was the first time young women had the chance to go to a public school. -
NEA Founded
The National Education Association is found with 43 members with the intent to help all students have the right to public schools. -
Kalamazoo Case
The Supreme Court ruled that it was legal for tax money to be used to support public education. -
Committee of Ten
The Committee of Ten was created by the NAE to help define what a good secondary education was. They helped determine the cirriculum that was needed in the secondary schools so there was some type of uniform learning. -
College Enterance Examination Board
The College Entrance Examination Board was founded to help provide a unified and equal testing for college admissiontests. -
Cumming's Vs School Board of Richmond County
The Supreme Court decided that it was legal that schools and their board did not have to provide secondary education to African Americans.
