The first Prototype of the Dodge Viper was made. This was kept secret until the public debut at the Indy 500 in 1991 as a pace car, where they revealed they had been testing prototypes for two years.

From the first prototype, to the last prototype, they had made up to 50 prototypes, because they wanted the car to be the line of perfection.

This was the first debut of the Dodge Viper, for public and all. At this time, it was not on sale. It was simply used as a replacement Pace Car, and the public was amazed at how different this car was, including its signature laid-back cabin.

At this point, the Dodge Viper was beginning to be sold. It was selling for a heavy price, but it was still a consumer favorite. They would continue production of this viper for 3 years, before they went to the second generation Viper for purposes of "keeping with the flow".

This Viper went under a minor reconstruction from the first Viper. They had kept many of the key components, including the cabin being towards the back, and they would continue production of this viper for 7 years.

The Third Generation Viper was a complete redesign from the Generation II Viper. This viper was only produced for 3 years, small compared to other vipers.

The Fourth Gen ZB Phase II was first debuted in public in 2005. It was simply a redesign of the last Viper. They would continue production until 2010.

The production of this Viper would have been more than a mere 5 years, although more than the last, until the Chrysler company had problems with money, and decided to redo production.

The Gen Five Viper is to be debuted at the New York Auto Show in April 2012. It is to be a direct competitor to the Alfa Romeo BC Competizone supercar. Now SRT Viper because of change of companies from Chrysler to SRT, the Gen Five viper will be a complete redesign, although keeping some of its old features.
