• Francois Isaac de Rivaz, a Swiss inventor, created the internal combustion engine that used a mixture of hydrogen and oxygen as fuel. Rivaz designed a car for this engine. It was the first combustion powered vehicle.

• 1910. Companies like Delage, Auto Union, Mercedes Benz, Delehaye, and Bugatti transformed their vehicles into high powered racing machines. Racing was becoming a sport.
