    • In 1818 the first bicycle was invented by German inventor- Karl Von Drais, it was called the Drasine. It was reffered to as the Walking Machine. Because as the name says, it was powered by feet power.

    In 1830 a two wheeled bicycle with pedals attached directly to the front wheels. It was known as the Velocipede or Boneshaker. It was also made entirely out of wood, and later it was improvised with metal wheels. And with cobblestone roads it made it extremely uncomfortable to ride. It was also short lived and was just another Fad.

    In 1870, the first all metal machine was made. The pedals were still attached to the front wheel. Tires made out of rubber helped make a comfortable ride. The front wheels kept getting larger because the people realized that the bigger the wheel, the further the consumer can travel with one pedal. The wheels were supposed to be as big as your leg length. This bike was the first to be called a bicycle. The bikes cost an average persons, six month salary.

    The next bike was made so that the metal was hard enough to support a full grown adult pedaling with 2 equal sized wheels. The bike still had the hard rubber tires that made it comfortable but not as comfortable as the High wheels due to the fact that the bikes did not have any spokes. Some of the bikes even had front or back suspensions.
