Akron is Founded
In 1825, General Simon Perkins and settler named Paul Williams had the sight of founding a city on the highest point of the Ohio and Erie Canal. They founded Akron, which is a Greek word which means, "high point." Akron became the county seat in 1842 and was chartered as a city in 1865.
