    Amanullah Kahn Takes Control
    On February 20, 1919, Habibullah Kahn was assassinated while he was on a hunting trip, leaving his third son, Amanullah in charge. Amanullah had lots of power over the army which led him to imprison or kill those who did not swear loyalty to him. Amanullah reighed for ten more years and in those ten years, he managed to win complete independence for Kabul.

    Russia Invaded Afghanistan
    On Christmas 1979, Russian troops landed in Kabal, Afghanistan. Thousands of Muslim leaders fled to the mountains to escape Prime Minister Amin's police. Thousands of Muslim's joined the Mujahdeen, then tried to overthrow Amin's government, which was communist based. The Russians claimed that they had been invited by Amin and said they were not invading the country.The Russicns then claimed that the Mujahdeen were terrorists.

    Amin is Killed
    On December 27, 1979, the Amin shot and killed by the Russians and was soon replaced by Barak Kamal. Kamal needed Russian military support to keep him in power and to keep the Afghan government going. Meanwhile, the Mujahideen proved to be a harmful opponent. They had old rifles and a knowledge of the mountains, where they were hiding. By 1982, the Mujahdeen controlled 75% of Afghanistan.

    Osama Bin Laden Attacks
    In Jaji, Osama Bin Laden and his followers attack the Soviet troops, which forced the troops to withdraw. In the actual battle, the first wave of Soviets are killed, and Bin Laden and his attackers are successful in fighting off the second wave. But then, Bin Laden is worried that his men will be killed if they stay for much longer. Osama and his men flee the mountains, only after destroying any evidence that could lead to where they are moving to next. Some men didn't want to leave, but had to.

    On September 11, 2001, al Qaeda terrorists hijacked four US airplanes, purposely cracshing two of them into the North and South towers of the World Trade Center. One was also crashed into the Pentagon. They attatcked us because they wanted to punish us for the crimes of religions and other freedoms. They attacked the Pentagon because they didn't want us to respond militarily. The attempt to crash a plane into the white house also failed, due to the brave people who stood up to the hijackers.

    NATO Troops Take Leadership
    In July, 2006, NATO troops invaded Afghanistan, trying to make sure their government is stable. NATO troops also invaded because they wanted to make sure that Afghanistan didn't become a haven for other terrorists. NATO forces are made up of 50 nations, ISAF, which means International Security Assistane Force. Slowly, Afghan leaders are getting more control and eventually, NATO forces are training and assisting the leaders to help Afghanistan lean more away from a combat centric role.
