  • The 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is adopted.Prohibition begins.

    Prohibits any United States citizen from being denied the right to vote on the basis of sex. It took 41 yrs. for Congress to accept it.
  • Congress enacts Emergency Quota Act.

    Restricted immigration into the United States. The act meant that only people of Northern Europe who had similar cultures to that of America were likely to get in.
  • The boll weevil ruins more than 85 percent of the South’s cotton crop

    The species moved up from Mexico into certain areas of Texas. The boll weevil made its first appearance in the early 1890s.
  • Ku Klux Klan members stage a major march through Washington, D.C.Scopes trial takes place in Dayton, Tennessee.

    Over 60 thousand members marched through Washington D.C. They marched through the capital to show how much their numbers had grown.
