It went throught the whole 19th century.The progressive movement aimed to return control of the government to the people, restore economic opportunities, and correct justice in American life. Without it people couldn't advance with jobs or with the enviorment. -
U.S.S Maine
U.S. warship that mysteriously exploded and sank in the harbor of Havana,Cuba. Because it was to protect U.S. people and U.S. properties during the fighting between U.S. and Cuba. -
Platt Amendment
the Platt Amendment was a treaty between the U.S. and Cuba that attempted to protect Cuba's independence from foreign intervention. Without it we couldn't have kept our businesses investments in Cuba such as the islands sugar,tobacco.mining, railroads and public utilities. -
Panama Canal
A canal about 50 miles long across the Isthmus of Panama, that connects the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Without it military and commercial ships would have to make long travels to get to their destinations and it became a great investment for th U.S. -
Meat inspection act
It dictated strict cleanlines requirements for meat packers and created the program of federal meat insection. Without it we wouldn't the FDA to help us make sure all of our meat is cleaned and cooked properly and that the companies that butcher the meat are clean. -
Pure Food and Drug Act
The Pure Food and Drug Act halted the sale of contaminated foods and medicine and called for truth in labeling. Without it you wouldn't know the truth about what the medicine and food have in it and what they could do to you. -
Archduke Franz Ferdinand
He was the archduke of Austria-Hungry right before WWI. If he wasn't assainated there wouldn't be a war between Serbia and Austria-Hungary and then there allies wouldn't declared war on RUssia as well. -
Selective Service Act
Required men to register with the government in order to be randomly selected for military service. Because if we didn't have enough military personnel then they could go by men that had registered with the military to be called to war. -
Espionage and Sedition Acts
A person could be fined up to $10,000 and setanced to 20 years in jail for interfering with the war effort of for saying anything disloyal or profane about the government or the war effort. because it protects our country from spies that could get important information about our government or military and use it against us.

Alvin York
He was one of the greatest heros of WW1. He killed 25 germans and with six other soughboys captured 132 prisoners. Because he tried to help people understand that you didn't need to kill people during wars but realized if it was for a good cause such as protection than he realized that killing wasn't as bad as he thought like the bible had said. -
Treaty of Versailes
Established nine new nations and shifted the boundaries of other nations. Helped France and Great Britain become allies with certain nations so than later they could self rule after their independence. -
Prohibition
Prohibition was the banning of alocholic beverages. Without the act today peopel could go out to drink where ever they want and no matter what age and it gave women the right to speak up. -
Pearl Harbor
Hundreds of Japanese fighter planes attacked the American naval base at Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii. Because that is the day that Japan attacked Hawii and tried to take out our whole military army leaving the U.S. without military. -
Susan B. Anthony
Susan B. Anthony was a leading proponent of the women suffrage she also founded the National Women Suffrage Assoctation. WIthout the begining of her women would not have the right to vote in our society. -
Boxer Rebellion
The revolt of Chinese secret group. Without it China wouldn't be as independent with the way they do trading and they wouldn't have an open door with the U.S.
