  • The First Piano

    The First Piano
    In the 1700's the first piano was invented by Bartolomeo Cristofori, who was a Italian harpsichord maker. It was important becuase rather than a harpsicord, the piano had a rich tone qualtiy. Today an estimated amount of 20 million Americans play the piano!
  • The Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence
    On the 4th of July, 1776, The Declaration of Independence was approved by congress. In fact, The Declaration of Independence was signed on July 2nd, not July 4th. It was very important because this document was what declared our independence from Great Britian. Without it, we could've been British today!
  • The Louisiana Purchase

    The Louisiana Purchase
    The Louisiana Purchase was a between the U.S. and France. New Orleans was closed to American shipping, and people were furious. To avoid hostilities, Thomas Jefferson offered to buy New Orleans from Napoleon, France's leader. The French then asked if they wanted to buy the WHOLE Louisiana Territory. The U.S. accepted and the bought it for 3 cents an acre. We immediately gained control of the Mississippi River and the U.S. doubled.

  • Lewis and Clark Journey West

    Lewis and Clark Journey West
    After the Louisiana Territory was bought, people wanted and needed to know what was out there. Jefferson hired Captain Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to explore the west. With the help of many others and a Native American named Sacagawea, they were able to get the job done.The trip took two years, but it was worth it. Lewis obtained over 200 new plant and animal species unknown to (European) science, and Clark created maps previously unknown to the U.S.

  • The Texas Revolution

    The Texas Republic originally belonged to Mexico but they would let Americans come in. Then, U.S. wanted Texas for themselves. The Americans residing the Texas revolted and it become known as the Texas Revolution. This was the start of the Mexican American War

  • The Donner Party

    The Donner Party was a group of people traveling west in order to settle there. The Donner Party is known for what they did, or ate. Being trapped in a massive snowstorm in the Sierra Nevades for an entire winter, they quckly lost their three weeks ration. After many substitutes, they finally resorted to cannibalism. It was a terrible event, but it is part of American history.
  • Mexican American War

    After many battles for the Texas territory, the fighting became a war. It was known as the Mexican-American War, or the Mexican War. The war ended 2 years later when the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed.

  • Califonia Gold Rush

    The California Gold Rush was an event that took place out west. People from all over the world came to California in an attempt to find gold. The cost of living began to go up in California, too. The price of food, tools, and other things increased. Very. very few people actually found gold.

    On April 12, 1861, Fort Sumter was attacked by Confederate soldiers. It was very important to our country because it was the start of the Civil War, and that changed our country forever.

In the most recent Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises, it earned more than 1.01 billion dollars! It was the to ever pass the 1 billion mark.

    The Attack on Pearl Harbor was a suprise attack from the Japanese Navy to the United States base, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. On this day, WW II started for the United States of America. This was important becuase WW II lasted for six years and many, many people died.

    The Supreme Case: Brown v The Board of Education
    In this court case, the plaintiff stated that he couldn't get into a certain school becuase of his skin color. On this date, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Earl Warren delivered the unanimous ruling that segregation in public schools was unconstitutional. It was important because even though laws were passed so that all men were equal, some schools wouldn't let people in becuase of their race, but in reality, they weren't being treated as equals, but now they are.

    The Sputink Satellite was the first satellite launched into space. It was launched by the Soviet Union. History was changed because people dreamed of getting that high and the Soviets did. This was the start of the Space Race.
  • The Death of Buddy Holly

    February 3, 1959 was the date that the Ameican icon, Buddy Holly died in a plane crash with Ritchie Valens and J.P. Richrdson, aka, the Big Bopper near Clear Lake, Iowa. It was sad day for people everywhere, and there was even a song that mentioned Buddy Holly's death! It was important because Buddy Holly got really far despite what people said about him. It truly was the day the music died.

    First Appearance of Spider-Man
    Spider-Man was first seen in the comic book, Amazing Fantasy #15, created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Spider-Man was one of the first teenage superheroes that wasn't a sidekick. It was important to a lot of people because Spider-Man has come a very long way. The movie, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, was the second biggest opening weekend of 2014, earning 91 million dollars, behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

    August 16, 1977 was a very sad day. It was the day that Elvis Presley died. Elvis died when in his bathroom, and he had high blood pressure and liver damage. It was an important event because he was a major person in the 20th century. He had 33 movies and sold over one billion records. He was also known as "The King of Rock 'n' Roll", and just "The King".

  • September 11, 2001

    September 11, 2001
    On September 11, 2001 (also known as 9/11), an Islamic group of terrorists attacked the United States. There were four attacks. Two planes crashed into the North and South towers of the World Trade Center, one crashed into the Pentagon, and one was directed towards Washington D.C., but it crashed in a field near Shanksville, PA when the passengers tried to overcome the terrorists. It is important becuase on that day many people were killed, and our country was very unified after this event.
