History and future of the IB

  • First IB examinations

The first official IBDP exams taken by students from 10 countries.
  • IBDP becomes available in Spanish

In 1983, the IBDP became available in Spanish. This was an important addition to allow for the programme to diversify across cultures.
  • Career-related Programme (CP) introduced

The CP is developed for students who want to study specific career-related subjects. This allows for students to develop specialised skills for the industry that they want to work in.
  • IB schools increase in numbers

According to the IBO, there are 5500 IB world schools, in 159 countries. I believe that by the next decade, the IB will have more than 10 000 schools, with school's present in almost every country of the world.
  • All IB schools offer off-campus programmes

In my prediction, the IB will offer 100% off-campus programmes and a wider-variety of testing centres. This will allow for a more inclusive education and afford students in remote areas to work exclusively via an online programme and take examinations in the designated testing centre.
  • The IB has a virtual world school

In my prediction, the IB will have developed a fully virtual world school in which students can opt to attend. The programme would include virtual teaching and collaboration (which I'm sure will be in the form of holographic projections by this time). Therefore, students of diverse cultures can interact and collaborate. It would basically become education without borders, a holistic education for all.
