  • 1972 Pennsylvania Association for Retarded Children (PARC) v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania May, 1972

    PARC fought for the right of mentally retarded children to receive the same educational services as those without disabilities. Common wealth State status at the time stated children could be excluded from public school if they were deemed ineducable.   • Honig v. Doe (1998)

    This case involves two students who were suspended from school until the proceedings for expulsion were complete due to violent behavior. The behavior issues were due to their disabilities and expelling them would violate the “stay put” provision of the Education for All Handicapped Children Act (EAHCA). .     Parents of a student with an intellectual disability, wanted their child to start kindergarten in a general classroom full time. The school disagreed and wanted to place her in special education.
