This organization lead teachers to have a voice within the system. The AFT allowed teachers rights to be respected, and considered.

    Maria Montessori
    Maria Montessori was an innovative progressive educator. According to Film 2006 she thought, senses were the first to be gained with education then it was intellect. In addition she thought every student could learn at their own rate with the theory of looking could transform into reading, and touching could lead to writing. She shaped education by believing the more hands on material could allow a student to learn and develop skills more freely. Which is important to the path of education.

    Scopes Monkey Trial
    In March 1925, there was a billed passed by the state legislature banning the teachings of evolution. A teacher named John Scope wanted to test how strong this case would be. He was a young popular science high school teacher. According to American, on May 7th, 1925 John was arrested and charged for teaching the theory of evolution. This trial lasted only eight days, and he was fined $100. This sets the importance allow teachers to have flexibility within their classrooms.

    Brown V. Board of Education
    Mr. Brown ended up teaming with the NAACP after he was unsuccessful in enrolling his seven-year-old daughter Linda Carol Brown into an all- white school. They believed their 14th amendment was being violated due to the color of the skin. The Supreme Court's decisions was ultimately unanimous allowing African Americans to be allowed in any school they wished.
