  • First American in Space

    Alan Bartlett Shepard Jr. was the first American in space. He was selected from seven people. John Glenn was his backup.He rode in the Freedom 7. He got Meniere's disease and was forbidden from solo flights.
  • President Kennedy Challeges

    Kennedy had challenged for a man to be on the moon by the end of the decade. He had great pleasureto have a win in the space race. They wanted to defeat the Soviets. THey were sure that they would acheive.
  • First American in Orbit

    John Glenn was the first American in Orbit. He took three turn around the planet. He rode in a spacecraft called the Friendship 7. He landeed safely on Earth and his mission followed Yuri Gagarin and Gherman Titov.
  • First Woman to Fly in Space

    Valentina Tereshkova was the first woman to fly in space. She rode inside a 2.3 meter cabin. She did 43 orbits around the planet then got sent to Earth. She jumped off of the Vostok 6 and parachuted down when entering the atmosphere.
  • First American to Walk Space

    Ed White was the first American to walk in space. He floated and manuevered around the spaceship. he logged 6,500 mile during the stroll. He was protected from the sun's rays. He was attached to a gold cord to the ship.
  • Man on Moon

    Neil Armstrong was the first man on moon. He went with Buzz Aldrin. Kennedy's challenge was completed. They beat the Soviet in this. "This is one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.
  • Apollo 13

    The oxygen tank exploded. The landing on moon mission was cancelled. Their were numerous technical problems. They had a backup called Aquarius. They had a safe return.
  • First Space Station in Space in The U.S.

    It was the United States of America's first space station. Its name was Skylab. It was not the first one in the world.

    It started Kazakhstan where Soyuz 19 started or launches.Audiences watched closely on television.It was a success.

    It discovered something valuable on Mars. It had discovered water frost. The name was Viking 2 and Viking 1's sister.
