Formation of the KKK
The KKK was founded by Nathan Beddford Forrest on December 24, 1866 as a radical white supremacy group that would terrorize newly freed blacks. The KKK would also terrorize whites who were involved with blacks. During the 60's, the KKK urged from the shadows by bombing black schools and churchs and lynching of innocent men, women and children. Whites that were involved with blacks were targeted as well. Unfortunately, the Ku klux klan is still around today... -

Elvis comes on TV for the First time
Elvis Presley arrives on the set of the Dorsey Brothers Show on January 28, 1956. Elvis sang "Shake Rattle & Roll", "Flip/Fly & Fly", and "I Got a Woman". The crowed loved it and became wildly interested. After his first TV appearance, Elvis became very popular. -
Charles Manson
In the 60's, Charles Manson created a Quasi-commune in the California Desert. Manson did not commit the murders himself, but the Manson Family (referring to the Quasi-commune) commited nine murders. Manson was found guilty in conspiracy to commit seven murders and is still in jail today. -
The Desegregation of the University of Alabama
The governer of Alabama, George Wallis was pro-segregation so on June 10, 1963 when black students tried to enroll for the University of Alabama, Wallis and the state troopers blocked the door so the black students could not enroll. Later that day, JFK sent in the National Guard and forced Wallis and his troopers to move allowing the black students to enroll. -
JFK assassination
JFK was riding in a motorcade in Dallas, Texas with his wife, the driver, and Governor John Connally when Lee Harvey Oswald shot three rounds into JFK. Oswald was shot later coming out of the court house by Jack Ruby. -
Nike
Nike was founded by Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman in January of 1964. Nike was known as BRS or Blue Ribbon Shoes before becoming Nike. -
More troops in Vietnam
Johnson sent 50,000 more troops into Vietnam on July 28, 1965. -
Black Panther Party
In October of 1966, Huey Newton and Bobby Seale founded the Black Panther Party. The organization protected the minority groups from racist radical groups like the KKK. -

Operation Popeye was a program in which the US government tried to modify the weather inorder to extend monsoon season. The program lasted from 1967-1972. -
Bobby Kennedy assassination
Bobby Kennedy was assassinated by Sirhan Sirhan on June 6, 1968 in Los Angeles, CA. Bobby was walking through the kitchen of the Ambassador Hotel and Sirhan Sirhan fired a .22 revolver at Bobby and killed him. Bobby lived for a few hours after the shooting until he passed. -
NIxon Election
Nixon became Presidentcy in 1968. Nixon was a the former Vice President. He was the 37th President. -
Landing on the moon
Apollo 11 was the first manned mission that would land on the moon. The crew onboard was Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins. -
Ping Pong Diplomacy
Ping Pong Diplomacy involved American ping pong players versus Chinese ping pong players. The tournament helped create peaceful relations between America and China would would lead to Nixon to visit Beijing on Feburary 21, 1972. -
Governor Wallace gets shot
George Wallis was campaigning for Presidentacy in Laurel, Maryland and a man by the name of Arthur Bremer shot Wallis five times. George however, did survive and wouldn't die until September 13, 1998. -
Nixon Resigns
Nixon Resigns after the Watergate scandal on August 9, 1974. He was the first President to resign from office. Gerald Ford would later pardon Nixon. -
Apple Computers
The Apple-1 was the first computer released by Apple in July of 1976. Today Apple is a multi-billion dollar company. -
Reagan's assassination attempt
Reagan was shot in the chest causing his lung to be punctured and heavy internal breathing. Reagan recovered quickly. He was shot by John Hickely Jr. The attempt ended with one dead and four injured. -
Space Shuttle Challenger
The Challenger had onboard a school teacher that was selected to particapte in going into space. Unfortunatly, the space shuttle blew up shortly after the launch killing the seven crewmen including the school teacher. -
Hurricane Katrina
Hurricane Katrina was ranked one of the top five most deadly hurricanes in U.S. history. The winds got up to 175 MPH, reached a level 5 category, and killed 1836 people in Louisana and Mississippi.
