Mr. Brown attempted to enroll his daughter into a public white school and was denied because of race. The case was heard before the US Supreme Court and ruled unconstitutional, and was a violation of the 14th Amendment. This case has been used and referenced in numerous other cases that deal with the inequality of minority students.

The data received from the study showed 13% of 17-year olds were illiterate. This study also showed that the US was losing a competitive edge in the market economy. With the study having these results called for a revise of classes.

Also known as Title 107-110, this was part of the No Child Left Behind Act. This bill created an accountability system and annual progress report. It showed the achievements levels of student groups, especially minorities. The bill wanted to have more time spent on reading, writing, and math, and less time on social studies, languages, and arts.
