    This era featured an expansion to the west, including the growth of the railroad systems, an increase in mining for resources, major growth in the ranching/cattle production, many new innovations for the farming industry, and an increase in the conflicts with Native Americans.

    Industrialization became big along with industrial monopolies by people and companies, Andrew Carnegie created the Carnegie Steel Company, people started immigrating into America from all over the world, which helped to improve the growth and production of cities.

    The U.S. increased it's expansion overseas, there was the Spanish-American War of 1898, Hawaii was annexed by the U.S. from Spain, and Teddy Roosevelt became the 26th president of the U.S

    Democratic Reforms, the regulation of the monopolies created by men like Andrew Carnegie, financial protection from consumers was created, women gained the right to vote and pushed for more equality, environmental conservation started up, and the prohibition of alcohol began

    WWI

    U.S. involvement in WWI officially began after the sinking of the Lusitania, there was the Zimmerman telegram from Germany to Mexico asking Mexico to declare war against the U.S., the combat was defined by trench warfare, Woodrow Wilson was the POTUS at the time, and he had 14 points he wanted to be enacted when Germany surrendered, and the League of Nations was formed in the aftermath of WWI.

    Roaring Twenties

    Jazz became VERY popular among people in the twenties, some young women were called flappers, prohibition began January 16th, 1920, the KKK was revitalized in it's hatred against African-Americans, and there was the Scopes Trial, which was where a substitute teacher taught evolution in a public school, which was, at the time, against the law.

    The Great Depression

    The Great Depression began after the stock market crash in 1929, on black thursday, which made for very high unemployment, Herbert Hoover was the 31st president of the U.S., and despite his best attempts, could not fix the depression, and then Franklin D. Roosevelt became the 32nd president of the U.S., and his New Deal program helped to provide aid to many citizens who were unemployed at the time and needed the assistance.

    There was the bombing of Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, the holocaust of the Jewish people, Adolf Hitler was the chancellor/dictator of Nazi Germany during WWII, war spread throughout Europe and the Pacific, with Japan joining the side of the axis, and the atomic bomb was created by the Manhattan Project, ending WWII after its uses on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

    The Cold War

    The Soviet Union and the U.S. were the two main culprits in the Cold War, with communism being at the heart of the differences between the two countries, with both countries spying on eachother to see if the other was planning nuclear war as part of the arms race, and to see how far along they were in space technology.

    The Vietnam War was part of the cold war, the U.S. backed South Vietnam while the Soviet Union backed the northern communist Vietnam, Lyndon B. Johnson became the 36th president of the U.S., there was a large draft for all able bodied young men to fight in the Vietnam War, and there was also a large group of men and women who were part of the antiwar movement.

    Civil Rights Movement

    Martin Luther King Jr. was at the front of the civil rights movement, with speeches and protests being led by him, Rosa Parks and her refusal to move to the back of the bus started the bus boycott and fueled civil rights activists, people pushed for multi-color schools and better education for colored people, and MLK Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech inspired many to protest the unjust civil rights.

    This is the historical era when inflation started to get really bad and make an impact in peoples everyday lives, there were 2 oil crises due to an embargo and a revolution in the middle east, there was a large conservative resurgence, the cold war ended and the Soviet Union split up, and the technological revolution began.

    U.S. in the 21st Century

    Globalization started due to technological advances like the internet, there were the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the twin towers in New York City, which sparked the war on terror and people's attempts to prevent and stop it, hurricane Katrina devasted southern U.S., there was an economic recession in 2008, and Barack Obama became the 44th president of the U.S. and the first African-American to be president.
