Putman's views on meaning or understanding of what terms describe was first written in 1973 with his publication, "Meaning and Reference" and then in 1975 in, "The Meaning of Meaning". He used the Twin Earth experiment to describe that the meaning of words that describe things would be the same across worlds that have the same mindsets.
