    Subway Hero and Free Write
After viewing David Letterman's interview with Wesley Autrey, the subway hero who risked his life to save a man he did not know, my definition of a hero was someone who gives themselves up to a cause. It could either be a choice, like a soldier chooses to fight, or in an immediate reaction to a situation, like Wesley Autrey's reaction to the man having a seizure.

  • Roy Benavides Story

    Roy Benavides Story
In class, we heard the story of Roy Benavides, the soldier who endured getting shot, hit by shrapnel, and hit in the head with the butt of a rifle to save his comrades. John McCain says that today we use the word hero too lightly. My definition of a hero did not change much, I just realized that what he did was something a hero would do.
  • Kristi Quillen Interview

    Kristi Quillen Interview
Kristi Quilllen was unsure of what she wanted to do with her life until she joined the peace corps. She moved to Costa Rica and bacame an english teacher. She realized that she could impact others by helping them learn. I learned that a hero does not necesscarily have to be brave, but can impact someone positively through their actions.
  • Heroes in Literature

    Heroes in Literature
After discussing whether the author of the book or the cahracter in the book is the hero, I decided that it is the author for voicing their opinion and portraying a good example of a hero.
  • Choosing My Hero

    Choosing My Hero
After two days of searching for a hero in the library, I had no idea who my hero would be. I thought of choosing a scientist, because I am interested in science, but there were no more good books in the library. At home that night the movie Ray came on and I decided he would be my hero because he did not let the fact that he was blind stop him from becoming an influencial musician.

    "Change the World" Power Point
After watching music videos, listening to songs, and discussing the many diffetrent kinds of heros, I realized that you can not just expect everyone in the world to be a hero. There are bad things that happen, and just a small act of kindness can have an influence on someone. A chain reaction can occur.

First Blog Post: How I Chose My Subject
Mrs. Allen recommended that we choose someone who did something in a subject that interests us. I enjoy listening to music and music makes up a part of my life so I decided Ray Charles would be a good decision. He was a famous musician who was also blind, but he did not let that stop him, so I saw admirable qualities suchas endurance and courage in him.
  • DEAR Days

    DEAR Days
After reading parts of Ray Charles' biography, I realized just how hard of a life he lived. He overcame many heartbreaking events and went blind in his early life. His mother encouraged him as he went blind and his wife encouraged him in his early music career to create his own style. In the end he was a very influencial musician.

    First Chapter Monday
The passage I chose to read explained that although Ray Charles was blind, he did not rely on others like most other blind people did for certain tasks. He did not use a cane either. He counted steps to be able to know exactly where everything was. This shows determination and courage.

    Post Three: Timetoast
Making this timeline allows me to realize how my idea of a hero has changed from childhood to now. In the second blogpost we wrote about our childhood heros. I said that they were mostly characters I saw on tv or in movies who I thought were cool. Now my idea of a hero is more complex. I do not necessarily view every trait of someone I can look up to as admirable, but what I do see as admirable is their influence and good examples. Even in the movies heros had struggles like people in real life.
