Henrik The Man Ibsen

ok so real quick, not Henrik Ibsen

We have to tell this story about Ibsen, trust me. okay so basically, we have Ibsen's dad. Knud....a beautiful name by the way. Anyway, his dad, aka Henrik's grandpa, aka let's name him Johan, perished at sea before Knud was even 1, so his mom remarries this other guy (IDK who this dude is.) Ole Paus, sells one of the houses Johan owned and buys the rising outside Skien (nowadays a cool Henrik Ibsen landmark) and this is where Ibsen grows up with some of his half-baked half-siblings.
  • also not Henrik Ibsen

    also not Henrik Ibsen
Nope, we aren't talking about his child's life or something. I guess, anyway, his dad. He uh has the "burghership of Skien." I have no clue what that's about, but I guess having the burger of skunk lets him open a luxurious timber business with his younger brother messed around for a bit, then uh, guess what? He marries his stepfather's niece, aka Henrik's mom, and then moves to rising. Next......

born to the rich: born to arrogance

In a later autobiography, Henrik stated that his young life was wonderful and that it was constant balls, diner parties, and visits from people he didn't know. However, according to those around him, he was highly cunning and malicious, as well as introverted. The daughter of his neighbor, whom he was supposedly fond of, even mentioned that when he grew up, while he was handsome, no one dared marry him due to his sheer malice.

    .....meanwhile, NOT HENRIK IBSEN

Back to Knud, there's a problem: he lost profits and had to sell one of his houses. oh, that's nothing to rich man, right? Normally, yes, but in this unfortunate case, it was an omen of what was to come. In 1843 Knud's wealth had decreased so much that he had to move his family to a house his younger brother owned (remember him from the Burger of Skunk thing?) anyways in the 1850s Knud really fell off from then till the end of his life he had to rely on his Younger Richer Cooler brothers.
