    Volcanos formed the Hawaiian islands

    Volcanoes can also form in the middle of a plate, where magma rises upward until it erupts on the sea floor, at what is called a “hot spot.” Each island is made up of at least one primary volcano. It happened one billion years ago.
  • Captain Cook discovered Islands

    On Jan. 18, 1778, Capt. James Cook arrived at the Hawaiian Islands. The Hawaiians greeted Cook and his men by hurling rocks; they then stole a small cutter vessel from the Discovery. Cook made detailed maps of Newfoundland prior to making three voyages to the Pacific Ocean.

    Albert's role as advisor to his wife came into full force after the death of Lord Melbourne, the prime minister.
