Jewish people were only allowed to leave their homes at certain hours of the day. They can’t have visits with family members outside of town either. Jewish people are restricted to shopping at a few stores at certain hours of the day. The Nazis about everything they owned.

    Nazis declare that Jewish children cannot attend school. Therefore, Hana’s parents hire a young woman from the next town to tutor Hana and an old refugee professor to teach George. Hana and George can no longer see their friends.

    Hana and George’s mom were arrested by the Gestapo, Hitler’s secret state police, and were taken to Ravensbrück, a women's concentration camp.

    Hana got a present from her mom. It is bread jewelry. Later, the Jews now had to wear a star-like badge saying Jude meaning Jew. George did not wear it feeling brazen, so he was spotted not wearing it. The next morning his father was taken by a Gestapo officer. Only Hana, George, and their parents’ maid Boshka remained in that house.

    Hana was living in Theresienstadt doing her work assigned to her age group, cleaning the bunks. There was never enough food, not good shelter, and no moments to yourself. She would have secret music, art, and sewing classes.

    Hana and George arrive at Theresienstadt, where they are separated. A soldier sent George to the boys’ barracks and Hana to the girls’ barracks located in former schools.

    George and Hana’s grandmother Emma, arrives at Theresienstadt, malnourished and without medical care; she passes away only three months later from illness.

    George and Hana’s father, Karel, is sent from the Iglau Gestapo prison to Cejl prison in Brno and then ultimately to Auschwitz where he is killed, on July 14, 1942.

    George survived the holocaust by being a plumber. Fumiko realized that and sent George a letter asking for some more artifacts and has some information about Hana. Fumiko also gave George some artifacts.

    George came to Tokyo and got respected very well. He also shared more information and saw Hana’s suitcase. He also got a poem from a member from “Small Wings!” That made his day.
