    Guess started to advertise in 1981, the same year it was created into a store. Later on in 1985 Guess intorduced thier iconic black and white ads which are still used today, even on the shopping bags. These black and white adds have won numerous Clio awards. A Clio award is an award giving to reward creative work in advertising, design, and comminucation. This award is presented annually.

    In the 90s The Guess Company began to take a downhill turn. The company’s image was damaged when they were being accused of having sweatshop labourers. When Guess sales were dropping because of these allegations other companies were rising to the top like, Calvin Klein, Diesel, Tommy Hilfiger, and Gap. They began rising in popularity as Guess was decreasing. They were slowly losing their image.Guess' sales were going down fast and its stock dropped dramatically.

    Guess was the first company to package their sheet, duvet and pillowcases in a packaging that was actually made from sheeting material. This was different and clever. It was the first time that someone wrapped fabric with more fabric. They still do it to this day when you purchase items like bags or jewelry. They wrap them in a cloth like fabric with the guess logo on the front.

    In 1992 Guess was faced litigation from the US Department of Labor. This was because guess failed to pay their employees minimum wage or over time. Instead of going to court, Guess gave back $573,000 in wages and it was paid to the employees.

Kate Upton was one of the most iconic Guess Girls of all time.
