    The Renaissance

    Renaissance humanists belived in individual human worth and dignity. That people chose their own nature, which was contrast to the common ideology that a persons true nature was determined by a higher power.
  • Period: Jan 1, 1500 to

    Haudenosaunee Confederacy

    Six nations who were previsoulsly at war, created and agreed to an oral constitution known and the Great law of Peace.
  • The Enlightenment

    There was many great thinkers during this era, which lead to econimic change. Philosophersd during this time believed that humans are reasonablel and can make rational decisions that will benefit themselves and society as a whole. This also promoted the protection of civil liberties, econmic freedom, and ownership of provate prooperty.

    The Industrail Revolution

    The Industrial Revolution promised equal and individual rights and freedoms to citizens. This gave citizens a chance to improve their quality of life, as this lead to ideas of a free market economy, and there was mass production of foods and goods.

    Mary Wollstonecraft

    Mary Wollstonecraft was known as the "Mother of Feminism" as the spoke for the injustices and unequal treatment of women in society and the stereotypes of that day. She called for the equality of the sexes, and to be equal under the law.

    The American Revolution

    American settlers were taxed heavily by Britain. After starting a war against Britian, America signed a declaration of Independance.

    The French Revolution

    Citizens were split into different social classes, the working class had no rights, very little representation within the govenrment, and close to no power. The King continuously spent an excessive amount of money on things he didn't need, which lead to citizens being taxed more than they could bargain, leading to poverty within the nation. They overthrew the government as thousands died due to hunger.
  • Welfare State

    The government would balance out the highs/lows of the econmic cycle by raising/lower taxed when necessary. The government plays a role in the protection of well-being of its citizens.
  • Chartism

    Chartism was a movement that advocated social and economic reform.
    The People Charter of 1838 was created, and had six goals.
    - Universal suffrage for all men over 21.
    - Equal-size electoral districts.
    - Voting by secret ballot.
    - End to the need of property qualifications for Parliament.
    - Pay for members of Parliament.
    - Annual elections.

    Theodore Roosevelt

    He wanted apital and labour (profit and workers rights) to be treated fairly. Was the 26th President of the United States, and was in office from 1901-1909. In 1948, the U.N. wrote two atricles on labour in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
