  • 24 Amendment

    The 14 Amendment abolished the poll tax in elections. This was done as it was primarily used to stop blacks and poorer families from voting.

    The Wilderness Preservation Act protected nine million acres of federal land. It was created to preserve wilderness.

    The Immigration Act of 1965 ended the quota system established in 1924. The new system enacted started a system where people were allowed in based on their skills.

    This act created the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Medicare provided medical assistance for the elderly, while Medicaid provided medical assistance for those living in poverty.
