She was then called to return to the Navy twice during this period, throughout the years 1966-1986. Grace was appointed Rear Admiral - Lower Half before finally retiring in 1986.

When she retired from the US Military, she continued to work in the computer industry and is even awarded the National Medal of Technology in 1991. She then passes away at the age of 85 on January 1st, 1992.
