    Archaeologists have evidence to belive that the Paleo Indians cornered their food to caves to easily kill it. They lived in groups of 25-50 people. There have been few artifacts from the Paleo people but the artifacts recovered were scattered across Georgia.

    *actual time period was from 8000 B.C. to 5000 B.C.It was hard for the early archaic people to find food because all of the larger game was dying off due to the end of the ice-age and huge climate change.     Middle Archaic Period

    actual time is around 5000 B.C. to 4000 B.C The weather became hot and dry so the rivers and coastal areas recceded. So, they began to eat shellfish. They ysed hooks and weighted spears to hunt for food. At this time small groups started to form camps.

    actual time is about 4000 B.C.to 1000 B.C. The grooved axe was a very common weapon during this period;used for hunting and clearing trees. They also began to plant (horticulture). Then, the climate bacame cooler and wetter,much like the weather today in Georgia. Lakes, rivers, and streams began to fill up, so they depended on shellfish for most of their food. Pottery was used for cooking, serving food, and storing.

    Woodland Indians

    actual time is 1000 B.C. to 1000 A.D. The woodland indians are responsible for the creation of the bow and arrow. They hunted for smaller game using the bow and arrow and spears. They also fished with the spears as well and gathered nuts and berries. They found out how to make clay last longer. The indians lived in small tribles and lived in dome shaped huts. Whenever someone dies, they would lay down all the gifts that person gave to recieve in their after life.

    actual time is about 800 A.D. to 1600 A.D. These Indians were really the first to tattoo and/or paint themselves. They also wore new headresses, jewelery, and clothes. They lived in groups of several thousand famililes in one settlement. They built centers for religious ceremonies and guard towers.
