Martin won comic fandom's Alley Award for Best Fan Fiction for his prose superhero story "Powerman vs. The Blue Barrier". -
He earned a B.S. in journalism
Martin earned a B.S. in journalism from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism in Evanston, Illinois, graduating summa cum laude; -
First sale
His first sale was "The Hero", sold to Galaxy magazine and published in its February 1971 issue. -
He started working as instructor
Martin was an English and journalism instructor at Clarke university, and he became Writer In Residence at the college from 1978 to 1979. -
He quitted his job to be a full time writer in a different city.
While he enjoyed teaching, the sudden death of friend and fellow author made Martin re-evaluate his own life, and he eventually decided to try to become a full-time writer. He and his wife moved to Santa Fe. -

HBO Game of thrones
HBO began airing the fantasy series on their US premium cable channel on April 17, 2011. Titled Game of Thrones, it ran weekly for ten episodes, each approximately an hour long. -
