Friedrich engels

Friedrich Engels (28 November 1820 - 5 August 1895)

  • Birth of Friedrich Engels

Friedrich Engels was born on 28 November 1820 in Barmen, Rhine Province, Prussia. His parents were Elizabeth Engels and Friedrich Engels Sr.
  • Anti-Dühring

Anti-Dühring "was an attempt '"to produce an encyclopaedic survey of our conception of the philosophical, natural-science and historical problems.'" (Engels). The main idea was that there was this man named Dühring who entered himself into German politics and he began to share his ideas and Engels wrote to Marx explaining how they both should stop the spread of his ideas.
  • Dialects of Nature

This was an unfinished piece of Engels. It was halted by the death of Marx which he had spent most, if not all, his time working with on this project as well as the majority of his work. This piece mainly describes his idea of science and rid many other ideas that other people may have had. It is explained that he wanted "to demonstrate the universality of the fundamental laws of materialist dialectics." (Dialectics of Nature).
  • Feuerbach and the end of classical German philosophy

"It was intended to rebut a resurgence of neo-Idealism in German ruling class circles." (Engels). The main reason of this was to emphasize importance of some other philosophers and their own theories. He basically just drew a line based off their ideas and created his own to branch off of what they had recently written.
  • Contribution to Philosophy of Science

Engels' views over philosophy of science are all found intertwined in his works. He "argues that scientific thinking is dialectical and adds that science has taken over much of what was formerly the province of philosophy." (Tim). He believes that philosophy had come to an end after Hegel. His laws are mostly found in his piece, "Anti-Durhing".
  • Death of Friedrich Engels

Friedrich Engels passed away from esophageal cancer on 5 August 1895.
