Fredrick was born,"Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey". His mother was a slave, but his father is unknown but thought to be the slave master at the time. He was born a slave in Talbot County, Maryland.

He started to learn how to read and write by Sophia Auld the wife of the slave master. She later stopped since her husband forbid his education. Since he wanted to learn so much he was taught b his neighbors.

In this year he bought the book named "Columbian Orator".This helped shape the views on his stances against slavery. After this book he started to learn about other abolitionists.

He is sent to Covey Edwards plantation so his hope would be crushed. After he started to receive punishment for not following orders he started to retaliate. Once he did this Covey threatened to go public, but after he found it would hurt his reputation he kept quiet.

This was Frederick's first attempt to escape slavery. He and some of his companions tried to escape their plantation when Douglass was 17 years old. Since they discovered the plot of escaping he was sent to jail.

Frederick escaped slavery through the Underground Railroad. He later married this year to Anna Murray. After the wedding he changed his last name to Douglass to protect his identity

Published first autobiography called "Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass an American Slave". In this it talks about all the evils of slavery he encountered. Also the struggles he faced trying to learn more.

After creating his autobiography he moved to Europe to stay safe. Once he travelled to Europe, he informed civilians that slavery is bad. This trip helped inform European nations about ways to help end slavery.

He travelled to the first ever women's rights convention. He was the only African American to attend this event. Frederick was an activists for both of these causes and made an impact in different ways.

This year he met with President Abraham Lincoln to talk about equality among the races. He was the first African American to be invited to the White House. Within these meetings equal pay and aiding escape to slaves was talked about.
