Fredrick Bailey was born in Maryland Talbot County in 1818 or 1817.He never knew his dad but he knew he was a white man.

At age 8 Fredrick moved to the Aalds house as a house servent.That was where he learned to read.

In 1838 Bailey ran away to Rockchester,Newyork to be free.While he was there he met Anna Murray and got married to her.She was a free woman.When they all setteld in Bedford he changred his last name to Douglass.
