Fredrick Douglass was born in Tuckahoe, near Hillsborough, in Talbot County, Maryland. Some say his father is white, others think his father was the slave owner. He didn't really know his mother since they've been seperated when he was a baby.

Even though he doesn't know his mother really well he was still dissappointed she pasted away.The last time he saw his mother was a year before her death. His mother died when he was only 14 years old.

After his mother pasted away he was sent to Baltimore to live with Hugh Auld and his wife Sophia. Then he was sent to work for Aaron Anthony, who dies later that year. Then Frederick becomes the property of Thomas Auld, Anthony's son-in-law. Thomas Auld decided to send him back to Hugh.

It was a risk to take, but Fredrick really wanted to learn to read and write like other little kids. She started to teach Fredrick and he enjoyed it. But, Sophia's husband caught him learning and demanded her to stop.

He started working at a shipyard as a general assistant. He was working there for two years. While working at the shipyard he was secretly learning how to read and write.

When he was sent to St. Michaels to work for Thomas Auld he tried to teach other slaves to read until Auld discovers it and stopped him from teaching.

A little after he was sent to St.Michaels Auld rents him out to Edward. This is also known as a "slave breaker". At the time Edward kept on beating Fredrick so Fredrick decided to fight back.
After that Edward never laid hands on him. -
A year later fredrick was sent to work for William Freeland in Talbot County. While working there he secretly organized a Sunday school program to teach kids how to read and write.

Fredrick makes an escape plan but he discovered,then arrested, and then released. He returned to work for Hugh and Sophia Auld in Baltimore and was hired out to work as a caulkera t a Baltimore shipyard. The knowledge he gains there helped him plan his next escape from slavery.

It was a big risk but Fredrick finally came up with a plan to escape slavery. He borrowed some ID papers from a free black man, then hopped on a boat to New York.

On October 9, 1840 his son Lewis Henry was born. He was the 2nd of 5 children.

On March 3, 1842 his son Fredrick Jr. was born. He was the third child out of five.

On October 24, 1884 Charles Raymond was born. Charles was the fourth child out of 4.

The "Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass" is a powerful story about Fredrick Douglass' life. This story has been changed over the years but it is still the same sad story.

On March 22, 1849 Fredrick's daughter Annie was born. She was the youngest sibbling.

Fredrick Douglass pasted away on Feburary 20, 1895. He died in Washington due to a heart attack. His funeral took place at Metropolitan AME Church.
