    The French Revolution
    The French Revolution began on July 14, 1789 with the storming of the Bastille. In the beginning, the ruler was King Louis XVI, but by the end of the revolution, France was a republic that was ruled by the people. After that they then turned into a Dictatorship that was run by Napoleon. This time in European history ended up being one of the most bloodiest. Even though it seemed like a bad time in France’s history, the French Revolution actually gave France better power and unified them.
  • Napoleon is Declared Emperor

    Napoleon is Declared Emperor
    Napoleon was a French political and military leader. On May 18, 1804, he was declared emperor. He then crowned himself emperor on December 2. Napoleon decided to become the leader of France when he noticed how France was suffering. He sailed over from Egypt to help. Napoleon led France in a positive direction. He won many wars during his ruling and even helped with the French Revolution. Napoleon ended up becoming a dictator and his ruling ended on April 11, 1814.

    The July Revolution was also known as the second French Revolution. The July Revolution was very short and started on July 26, 1830. The only participants in the revolution were the French society. The outcome of the revolution ended up being the abdication of Charles X. Charles X was the king of France for a total of six years. The July Revolution ended on July 29, 1830.
  • Completion of the Arc de Triomphe

    Completion of the Arc de Triomphe
    The Arc de Triomphe is located in Paris, France and has many visitors daily. The construction for the Arc de Triomphe was started on August 15, 1806 and was then opened to the public in 1836. The Arc de Triomphe was built to honor people that had died in the French Revolutionary War and the Napoleonic Wars. The names of the people that had died are inscribed in the surfaces. The Arc de Triomphe also holds The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from WWI. The tomb represents the unknown people that died.

    The Crimean War began in October, 1853. In the war, Russia lost to an alliance of France. The main cause of the war was involving the rights of the Christian minorities in the Holy Land. During that time the land was owned by the Ottoman Empire. The French ended up helping by promoting the rights of the Catholics. The French had helped many people get rights and the Crimean War also led to the an Allied victory. The Crimean War then ended in February 1856.
  • Completion of the Eiffel Tower

    Completion of the Eiffel Tower
    The Eiffel Tower is a very popular tourist attraction and is one of the most famous landmarks in Paris, France today. The Eiffel Tower started to get built on January 28, 1887. The tower took about two years to build and was finally finished on March 15, 1889. The structure has many levels and was built one level at a time in a process. Many complex details are also built into the tower to make it unique. The Eiffel Tower was then finally open for the public to visit on March 31, 1889.

    World War 1
    World War 1 was a big time in history. The war started on August 3, 1914. The war was also known as the Great War because it was such a big deal. Germany ended up declaring war on France and that is what got France involved. Germany had a plan to attack France and the plan for France was for Russia and Britain to help. Other countries did not get involved though. France fought strong in the war, and the Allies won. The war ended on November 11, 1918.

    The Treaty of Versailles
    The Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919. The treaty was one of the peace treaties at the end of World War 1. The treaty was signed to end the state of war between Germany and the Allied Powers. This peace treaty is important to France because France is one of the Allied powers along with the United States and a few others such as the British Empire. Without the Treaty of Versailles the war would have gone on and many people would have been in danger.
  • World War 2

    World War 2
    World War 2 was a big part of France’s history. Like in World War 1 when Germany declared war on France, France now declared war on Germany on September 1, 1939. WWII was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945. WWII was the most international war in history and was also the most deadly conflict in human history. The war involved over 100 million people from over 30 countries. France was involved in a lot of world wars and this was a very serious one. The Allies ended up winning this war.
  • The Treaty of Paris

    The Treaty of Paris
    The Treaty of Paris was signed on April 18, 1951. On July 23, 1952, the treaty was completely in force.The treaty was between France, West Germany, Italy, and the three Benelux countries which were Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands. The treaty established the European Coal and Steel Community. The community then became a part of the European Union. The treaty did eventually expire. On July 23, 2002 was when it was expired which was exactly 50 years after it was put into effect.
