    Brown vs. Board of Education
    A very monumental moment in educations history. The Supreme Court established a state law that mandated that it was unconstitutional for black and white students to be separated into different schooling systems. The judges voted on this case 9-0.

  • Elementary & Secondary Education Act

    Elementary & Secondary Education Act
    (ESEA) is a statute that is thought to be one of the most far- reaching federal legislation that directly affects education. It was passed by congress in 1965. The act funds primary and secondary education while forbidding the creation of a national curriculum. One of its main goals is to provide equal access to education for all students.
  • Education for All Handicapped Children Act

    Education for All Handicapped Children Act
    In 1975, The United States Congress established an act that required all public schools who were accepting federal funds to provide equal access to education for all of their students as well as one free meal a day for students with physical and mental disabilities. Evaluations were mandatory followed by the creation of educational plans that involved parental input.
  • The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act

    The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
    (IDEA)- IDEA was enacted by congress in 1975. It’s main focus was to ensure that children with disabilities would have the opportunity to receive a free public education. This law was revised multiple times throughout the course of the next 30 years.
  • Public Law 105-17

    Public Law 105-17
    In 1997, Public Law 105-17 was enacted. This reauthorization of (IDEA) saw initiative for transition services. This required schools to create and provide a transition plan as a part of every student’s Individual Education Program (IEP). This was to be done no later that the students sixteenth birthday. There were also other changes having to do with participation in State assessment tests as well as the eligibility of ADHD students.
  • No Child Left Behind

    No Child Left Behind
    (NCLB)- United States Congress established The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 as a reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. This included the flagship aid program for disadvantaged students (Title I). NCLB is a major supporter of the standards- based education reform. This Act requires states to develop assessments of all basic skills.
  • IDEA- Revisions

    IDEA- Revisions
    After several changes, IDEA most recently released final regulations that required schools to use research based interventions while working with the assistance of students with learning disabilities. This is most often used when determining eligibility for special education- Response to Intervention (RTI).
