  • 22nd Amendment

    22nd Amendment
    In 1951, 36 of the then 48 states ratified this amenedment. It stated that no president can have longer than two - four year terms. It was intially passed in congress in 1947 but not ratified until 1951
  • Explorer 1

    Explorer 1
    This was the first satelite of the United States. This followed the Sputnik 1 and 2 thus creating the Cold War. It remained in orbit transferring information until its batteries died 4 months later. It stayed in orbit until 1970.
  • John F. Kennedy Killed

    John F. Kennedy Killed
    JFK Clip While in Dallas Texas for his re-election campaign, JFK and his wife Jackie were in a parade to celebrate him being there. During the parade Lee Harvey Oswald shot Kennedy two times killing him.
  • Gulf of Tonkin Resolution

    Gulf of Tonkin Resolution
    President Johnson announces American Ships in the Gulf of Tonkin had been attacked by the North Vietnamese. We sent U.S. planes to stop the attack. Johnson asked congress to help support and pass the resloution.
  • Amendment 26 ratified

    Amendment 26 ratified
    They changed the voting age from 21 to 18. The arguement was if they have to fight overseas they should have the right to vote. Congress passed it, the states ratified it and Nixon signed it into law that July.

    President Nixon was the first to visit China. Since Vietnam, America and China did not have good trade. After Nixon goes over he opens up trade and builds our relationship with China.

    Steve Jobs and Steve Wozinak starts their corporation in 1977. They create the Apple 1 in 1976. Jobs was forced out of office in 1985.

    The Iranan people were so angry with the United States, They stormed the United States Embassy. Americans were taken hostage for 444 days. Six americans escaped and were taken by the Canadian Embassy and made it back safely to America.
  • AIDS

    AIDS
    In January 1983, AIDS was reported among the female partners of males who had the disease suggesting it could be passed on via heterosexual sex. During the 1980s and 70s it could be transfered through needles from drug addicts. The world was starting to find out that you dont have to be gay to get it.
  • Challenger Explosion

    Challenger Explosion
    A teacher from Texas was going to be the first to go up into space. She trained for months to go up. The whole country was watching as they loaded the shuttle. Everyone counted down and right as they were up in the air the shuttle exploded, Leaving the whole country in shock.
