    Rock 'n' roll
    In 1951, Alan Freed held a rhythm-and-blues radio show where the word "rock 'n' roll" originated from. Elvis Presley, became one of the biggest music stars in 1955. Rock 'n' roll was popular, but most parents hated it because they thought it would effect the behavior of teenagers.
  • Brown vs Board of Education

    Brown vs Board of Education
    The main case was about Linda Brown from Topeka, Kanasa. She was a litttle African American girl, who had to travel a longer distance then needed just to attened an all black school because she couldn't go to the white school which was closer to her house. Thurgood Marshall, NAACP lawyer had influenced the Court to declare segregation illegal in public schools.

    Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat and was arrested. This led many African Americans to organize a boycott against buses, with their leader being Martin Luther King Jr. After more then a year, the Supreme Court in Novermber 1956, declared segregation laws on buses unconstitutional.

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    Fidel Castro asked Khrushchev for nuclear missles that could reach the United States. U-2 spy plane took photographs, and on October 14, it revealed two missile launching pads. Then for the next days, nuclear war was in going going into action, but in the end Khrushchev agreed to dismantle the missiles in Cuba. In response, U.S. removed missiles from foreign sites, signed the Limited Nuclear Test Ban Treaty and created a hot line with the Soviet Union.

    African Americans gathered at the Lincoln Memorial for the civil rights movement. Philip Randolph, was the director of tthe march, who opened the ceremony. And Martin Luther King Jr, gave the final speech, "I have a dream." This march, gave hope to people and on July 2, 1964, The Civil RIghts Act of 1964 was passed banning discrimination in employmentand public accomoadations.

    In Dallas, Texas, President Kennedy was in an open-car motorcade with his wife, driving throw crowds of people. Then at around 12:30 p.m., Kennedy had been shot. Lee Harvey Oswald got arrested for the shooting. After Kennedy was rushed to the hospital, and prononced dead; Lyndon Johnson came into office.

    Woodstock was a music and art fair during the counterculture revolution. Hippies had became popular in the younger generation, and drugs had taken over their lives basically. At Woodstock, 400,000 young people went to upstate New York for three days and heard rock music in a peaceful atmosphere.

They had spying devices like; wiretap equipment. Nixon denied being part of it, but Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein kept digging for the truth to tell the public. But in 1973, Nixon was uncovered from the truth and later on resigned.

    United States and North Vietnam met in Paris to make negotiations. They agreed on a cease fire, withdrawal of troops and to rebuild Vietnam. South Vietnam then lost to North Vietnam, and fell to Communism. But you know that domino theory didn't happen.

    People were trying to improve their inner selves, but also outer appearance. Many Americans at this time, jogged or ran to stay fit. This all happened after, Jim Fixx published "The Complete Book of Running." People realized that some of their habits were not healthy.
