The Vietnam War
The Vietnam War was from November 1, 1955 to April 30, 1975. It was fought betwen South Vietnam which was supported by the U.S. and other anticommunisis, and North Vietnam which was supported by only communists. The only reason the U.S. was involved in Vietnam was because the U.S. didnt wasnt communist to spread. The war was opposed by many Americans.

Elvis Presley's First Album
Elvis Presley's first album which was Elvis went number one on Billboard's pop albm char for 10 weeks in 1956. It was the first Elvis album to reach over $1 million in sales. This was one of the reason that made Elvis Presley get his first gold album award. -
Hippie Counterculture Movement
The Hippie Movement was a way of expression to turn war into peace. This movement consisted of a variety of social concerns and beliefs. Hippies' primary motive was to be happy and not worry about what others wanted you to be.

Alabama Football Heyday
First National Championship under legendary head coach Bear Bryant. From January 1, 1960 to December 31, 1979. The team had earned thirteen conference championships. Also, six national championships under one of the best coaches, Bear Bryant. He retired with the most wins as any head coach in college football history. -
JFK Integrates University of Alabama
Governor George Wallace promised to "stand in the schoolhouse door " to stop two black students from enrolling at University of Alabama. President Kennedy wanted to protect these two students and so he federalized the Alabama National Guard. President Kennedy was big on civil rights and he wanted to protect those rights. -
Assassination of President John F. Kennedy
President JFK was traveling through Dallas, Texas in an open-top convertible with his wife. As they passed the Texas School Book Depository Building at 12:30 pm, three shots were fired at President JFK. He was announced dead 30 minutes later and was found to be assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald. -
Black Panther Party
The Black Panther Party was a black nationalism group that originally called for protection in African American neighborhoods. It came to the forefront of the 1960s counterculture movement because it grew dramatically in popularity. The Black Panther Party had a bad reputaton because they used violence to achieve their goals.

Moon Landing
The first manned mission to land on the moon was the U.S. Apollo 11. It was Neil Armstrong and then Buzz Aldrin to set foot on the moon. Michael Collison was the other crew member who piloted their spacecraf in orbit until they safely returned back to Earth. -
Kent Staten Shooting
The Ohio National Guardsmen were on the Kent State college compus to maintain order during a student protest against the Vietnam War. For some reason, there were four students killed and nine others wounded because the National Guard suddenly fired their guns upon the crowd of protesters. -
Assassination Attempt on President Reagan
President Reagan was shot at by John Hinckley only 69 days into his presidency, after speaking at a Washington Hilton. Hinckley took six shots with his .22-caliber revolver. President Reagan had not known that he had been shot until he was coughing blood. He was bale to survive and recover quickly becaue of quick care in the hospital. Later, Hinckley was found not guilty of shooting because he had a mental illness. -
Watergate Scandal
Several burglalars were caught and arrested inside the office of the Democatic National Committee. This was located in the Watergate Building. They were linked to President Nixon's re-election campaign and were trying to wiretap phones and steal secret documents. This scandal caused President Nixon to resign. -
HIV Outbreak
The New York Times reported an outbreak of a rare form of cancer among many gay men in Califonia and New York. It was called "gay cancer", but later identified as Kaposi's Sarcoma which is a disease that later became known as HIV/AIDS. This was the beginning of what has become the biggest and deadliest health care concern in modern history today.
