    The American Revolution was the taking of our country by force from the British. All thirthteen colonies combined to become the United States of America. They rejected Britain to govern them from overseas without representation, and then kicked out all officials from Britain.

    The Declaration of Independence written by Thomas Jefferson was written to declare the freedom we gained by becoming a nation in 1776. John Locke was the inspirtation for Jefferson to push America in to democracy.

    Articles of the Confederation
    The Articles of Confederation were the first constitution of the United States and specified how the Federal government was going to operate, including of the legitimate name for the new nation, United States of America.
  • End of the American Revolution

    End of the American Revolution
    The war ended with effective American victory in October 1781. it was followed by a Treaty of Paris in 1783 stating that the British now have no stakes left in America whatsoever.
  • Shay's Rebellion

    Shay's Rebellion
    The rebellion started on August 29, 1786, with a militia that had been organized due to the unfairness of the new government. Several of the people who took part in the rebellion were soldiers who fought in the war. Many of them upon returning to thier farms and homes had found that the conditions were often terrible due to the fighing.The soldiers were being jailed for not being able to pay their taxes. However, the entire rebellion ended with Geroge washington riding in on his horse.

    The Connecticut Compromise/Great Comprimise was an agreement between large and small states reached during the Constitutional Convention of 1787 that shaped the legislative branch and how our representation is equal. It proposed a bicameral legislature, which led to Congress (Senate and House of Representatives) as we know it today.

    Philadelphia Convention
    Even though the Convention was intended only to amend the Articles of Confederation, it eventually came down to creating a new government rather than fixing the failing one. The delegates elected George Washington to preside over the meeting. The outcome of the Convention was the United States Constitution, placing the Convention among the most important events in the history of the United States. It is our form of government today.
