    Foraker Act
    This act which was established under the Presidency of William McKinley stated that the United States would establish a government for itself on the island of Puerto Rico. This was one of the first establishments of a United States government on a newly acquired land in the Pacific.
  • Roosevelt Corollary

    Roosevelt Corollary
    This event was an addition to the previously establish Monroe Doctrine and was established when the United States began taking interest in Latin American affairs for building things such as the Panama Canal. The United States wanted to thrive economically and politically by itself without interference from European countries therefore President Roosevelt stated that the United States could interfere with other Western countries affair if it was threatened by them.
  • Zimmerman Telegram

    Zimmerman Telegram
    The Zimmerman telegram was a secret telegram sent by Germany to Mexico. The United States was not popular with Mexico at this time and this was trying to convince them to form a pact against America in return for land if they won. This affected American foreign policy as it lessened relationships and ended the isolationist policy of the time.
  • Wilson´s Fourteen Points

    Wilson´s Fourteen Points
    This plan by President Wilson was his idea on how to best achieve peace in Europe. It outlined to not punish Germany any further for what it did in the war as it was already in poor enough shape. European countries did not agree with this though as they were in the war for its entirety and suffered more. Many of Wilson´s ideas were not used but some came through.

    This act was designed by the United States to punish people who spoke out against them and their policies. This was a new policy and idea and was seen as many as a impingement of their first amendment rights of speech.
  • Treaty of Versailles

    Treaty of Versailles
    The treaty of Versailles was the agreed meeting point of the four leaders of the winning countries of the war. These countries decided to punish Germany not to Wilson´s pleasure but did use some of his ideas. One of the most important of these was the creation of the League of Nations. This influenced American policy as they elected not to join as to not get entangled in European affairs again.
  • Washington Naval Conference

    Washington Naval Conference
    This conference was held between the major naval powers of the 1900´s. The main goal of this time was to convince countries such as Britain and Japan as well as the United States to destroy many of their naval vessels. This was all designed to counter the naval arms race that was happening between countries in the Pacific at the time.
  • Dawes Plan

    Dawes Plan
    This plan created by American economists was designed so that American could receive all of its debt from Germany and other European countries from the war. Germany was drowning is debt and war reparations and American knew that it would never receive its debts and therefore tried this plan to see if it would work to re-stimulate the economy.
  • Immigration Act of 1924

    Immigration Act of 1924
    This act was designed to slow the Immigration of foreigners that was occurring from European and Asian countries at the time. This was due to their unpopular appearance as they were taking many jobs that American though rightfully belonged to them. This policy did it by lowering the number of immigrants to 2 percent of the 1890 census. It also completely banned Asian people from immigrating.

    This event was caused by over speculation of the Stock Market and buying stocks without margin. When people sold their stocks all at once the market crashed. This held economic reproductions all over the world and caused a world depression.
  • Hawley-Smoot Tariff

    Hawley-Smoot Tariff
    This tariff was designed by the United States as a protective tariff during the 1930´s. During this time American retreated to its economic isolationist state and wished to get out of it by imposing high import tariffs. Other countries matches this though and therefore it made the situation worse for America.

    This was another attempt of the United States to interfere in foreign affairs. The Stimson doctrine was an attempt of American non-recognition of Manchuria in order to solve the crisis that was occurring.
  • Quarantine Speech

    Quarantine Speech
    This was a speech given by FDR that preached American neutrality and isolationist policies to the ¨epidemic of world lawlessness¨ . FDR said America would not go for this and would remain with its neutral policies even if another World War did arise. It was also designed to put down the war seeking nations and make them go to an isolationist policy by in turn ¨Quarantining¨ them from the world.

    This conference was designed to appease Hitler and his needs. These nations did this to avoid another World War at all costs. This follows Americas isolationist policies at the time.

    Atlantic Charter
    This was a joint document of the United States and Europe stating what they intended to do in the war. This closes out this time period that is being discussed and is the pinnacle of the ending of the isolationist policy of America during this century.
