    The Colonists wanted freedom from the King. They believed in "No Taxation Without Representation". This sparked a war to become independent from the tyrannical King of England.

    In George Washington's Farewell Address, Washington warned the United States of America of many issues. Mainly, he urged Isolationism as well as straying from party allegiance.
  • Barbary Wars

    Under Jefferson, it was the first time the new Marines were sent onto foreign soil. They fought over pirates.
  • Embargo Act

    The Embargo Act laid an embargo on all ships and vessels under U.S. jurisdiction, prevented all ships and vessels from obtaining clearance to undertake in voyages to foreign ports or places, and allowed the President of the United States to make exceptions for vessels under his immediate direction.

    The United States declared war in 1812 for several reasons. One of them was trade restrictions brought about by Britain's ongoing war with France. Along with it was the impressment of American merchant sailors into the Royal Navy, and possible American desire to annex Canada.

    This Doctrine explained that any attempts by the British Empire to advance on Latin American soil that the United States would support the Latin American nations in warding off the Europeans.

    This was a term coined by the Democrats to justify the expansion to other parts of the country. This included the raping of the land with technology and taking land from the Native Americans.
  • U.S, Mexican War

    U.S, Mexican War
    The United States wanted to annex Texas, though Mexico considered this part of their territory. Many battles broke out, but ultimately Texas was taken by America.
  • Spanish-American-Cuban War

    Spanish-American-Cuban War
    Cubans wanted to become independent from the Spanish rule, so the United States thought that it would be good to help them out. Spain didn't like this decision, so a war broke out. It ended in temporary American control over Cuba.

    Also known as the Newlands Resolution, this was the agreement to annex the Republic of Hawaii and make it the territory of Hawaii. It didn't pass the first time, but it later passed in a Joint Resolution bill.

    This was meant to be an addition to the Monroe Doctrine. It said that the United States would take military action in Latin America to keep European countries out.

    The Allies faced the Central Powers in a war including countries from all across the globe. It was mainly fought in European countries. The Allies finally "won" in the summer of 1918.

    Due to factors like the Great Depression and the amount of losses in WWI, The government worked as hard as they could to keep out of conflicts in Europe and Asia. This was the philosophy of George Washington, which he emphasized in his Farewell Address.

    Isolationism was finally thrown to the wayside in 1939. This was a battle between the Axis and Allies. There was a lot of battle. Hitler was taken down.

    This was a war that last from 1945 until 1991. It was a battle between the Western Bloc and the Eastern Bloc. Within this war were many arms races, and in the end no one was blown to smitherines, so it was an overall win for all.

    The Truman Doctrine was a statement to say that the United States would promise monetary aid and military support to countries in need.
  • Marshall Plan

    We hate Communism in the United States, and this plan was put in place to try and rid the world of it. It was only in place for a mere four years.

    The Vietnam "Conflict" last until 1975. Many were killed by the guerilla warfare tactics of the Vietnamerse soldiers. It was a devastating war that took a large toll on the United States. It was shown in the media more prominently on the homefront, so it was the first time people truly saw the ugliness of war.

    This lasted until the year 1980. This was period in which the tension between the United States and the Soviet Union began to ease an go away through the signing of things like SALT.

    He was incredibly supportive of helping countries that needed a lot of help. He got rid of one of the most oppressive leaders in Latin America.

    This was a terrorist attack on the World Trade Centers. This sparked a war on Iraq based on George W. Bush's gut feelings. We still are involved in this war. This sparked the Patriot Act which has gotten rid of many pieces of American Privacy.

    There has been a war in the Middle East since the attack on the World Trade Centers. Obama is currently trying to get the troops out. It seems as though 9/11 was just a reason for the United States to go into the Middle East to steal all of their oil.
