  • American Revolution

    American Revolution
    The American Revolution was a conflict involving Great Britian and the thirteen colonies. It all started in April of 1775 when King George III ignored the Olive Branch Petition from the colonies asking to compromise. This resulted in great battles and ending with the freedom of America and the creation of The Decleration of Independence.
  • Washington's Farewell Address

    Washington's Farewell Address
    When George Washington ended his presidency in 1796 he concluded with a letter to the citizens of America. He warned the country of what the future could hold and said two significant things. He said do not create political parties so we do not split the country. Also do not create alliances with foreign countries and don't have any foreign influences with other countries.
  • The Barbary Wars

    The Barbary Wars
    The Barbary Wars was the first time we had any military affairs outside of our national boundaries. The North African states (Morocco, Algiers, Tunis, and Tripoli) would old our boats hostage while we traded and asked for money to get them back. Most countries would agree to the money because it is cheaper but President Jefferson refused and sent our marines to attack the pirates that ransom our boats.
  • Embargo Act

    Embargo Act
    The Embargo Act was President Thomas Jefferson's non-violent resistance on British and French. It closed of all American ports to and from Great Britian and France. Thomas Jefferson was hoping that the British and French would realize that they needed to trade with each other. But it was a failure. It was a failure because people in Great Britian were losing jobs and people were smuggling goods which costed a lot.
  • War of 1812

    War of 1812
    Great Britian did not agree with America's expansion, or their trading. America did not like these conflicts with Britian and declared war on them. It was a costly war and there were many battles. But the War of 1812 finally ended after 32 months with the Treaty of Ghent but many things were left unsolved. This left Americans feeling like this war was the second war on independence and most Americans had a new idea of patriotism.
  • Monroe Doctrine

    Monroe Doctrine
    President James Monroe introduced the Monroe Doctrine on December 2, 1823. This doctrine states that if European nations interfere with America it would be considered acts of aggression. It also stated that America would not interfere with European conflicts. Also, it declared Latin American colonies independent from the Spanish Empire and the Portuguese Empire.
  • Manifest Destiny

    Manifest Destiny
    Manifest Destiny is a term used in the 19th century to fuel western settlement and drive out Native Americans. It was a saying that America was not only could, but was sort of destined to expand from coast to coast.
  • U.S. Mexican War

    U.S. Mexican War
    The U.S. Mexican War was an armed battle between America and Mexico. The main point of all the fighting was to determine were Texas ended because both the United States and Mexico wanted that territory. This war the U.S. was continously victorious and resulted with Mexico losing a lot of land. It caused a great division in out country because neither party (Democrats or Republicans) could agree with each other about the war. On Feburary 1948 the war ended.
  • Spanish-American-Cuban War

    Spanish-American-Cuban War
    This war was against America and Spain. Generally it was the effect of America's involvment in Cuba's war for independence. The result was the creation of the treaty of Paris on August 12, 1898 that sayed America had temporary control of Cuba.
  • Annexation of Hawaii

    Annexation of Hawaii
    The Annexation of Hawaii extended U.S. territory into the Pacific and resulted in economic integration and the rise of the United States as a Pacific power. It was a place for America's whaling ships and few sugarcanes productions and Hawaii's economy became integrated with the U.S.'s economy.
  • Roosevelt Corollary

    Roosevelt Corollary
    The Roosevelt Corollary is a corollary to the Monroe Doctrine that was created by President Roosevelt in 1904. The corollary says that the United States will interfer with conflicts between European Nations and Latin American countries to enforceclaims of the European powers, rather than having the Europeans press their claims directly.

    This war was a global war between the greatest powers split up into two groups the Allies and the Central Powers. The crisis of 1914 or the death of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife was the start of WWI but there were many factors to it before hand. The war ended on November 11 1918.
  • Isolationism

    Isolationism is a policy like item that isolates a nation from affarirs with other nations by agreeing not to have anything to do with foreign countries including trade, and alliances. America was an isolationist country until the attack of Pearl Harbor.
  • WWII

    WWII
    World war two was yet another global war but for another reason. Germany was rising into power by their leader Adolf Hitler and his Nazi party. After Germay invaded Poland in September 1939 Great Britian and France declared war on Germany starting WWII. This was a very brutal war with over 50 million dead. It ended in 1945 when Germany surrendered to the Western Allies and the Soviet Union.
  • The Cold War

    The Cold War
    Many say The Cold War began at the end of World War two but there is no exact date as to when it started, The Cold war was mainly against the Soviet Union and the United States against communism. Most of the war were threats made by each country but no actually battling occured. It concluded with the fall of the Berlin wall on October 3, 1990.
  • Truman Doctrine

    Truman Doctrine
    This was a policy created by President Truman saying that America would aid Greece and Turkey economically and militarilly so that they did not fall unto Soviet rule. Some say this was the first cause or the beginning of the Cold war against the Soviets and America.
  • Marshall Plan

    Marshall Plan
    The Marshall Plan was America's policy to aid Europe so they could rebuild themselves after World War two. This was to help prevent the spread of Soviet communism.
  • Vietnam War

    Vietnam War
    The Vietnam War was like a cold war in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. America got involved to prevent communism takeover in South Vietnam. America left the war on Agust 15, 1973 because of the passing of the Case-church Amendment. In April 1975 the war ended after the capture of Saigon.
  • Detente

    Detente
    Detente is the easing of tension on strained relations, generally speaking in political situations. This especially took effect after the Cold War and easing of relations between America, China, and Russia.
  • Carter's emphasis on foreign policy

    Carter's emphasis on foreign policy
    Carter emphasized that our nation's foreign policy should be the opposite of the Nixon Administration. So, he wishes to seek out peace and reduce tensions with other nations. He felt for too many years was America "fighting fire with fire" rather that diminishing the flames with water. He prefers peace rather than war.
  • Engagement

    Engagement is a policy with other countries about political and business relationships while also supporting that country socially and politically. In the 1980s America used this with South Africa as an alternate to the economy of South Africa.
  • September 11, 2001

    September 11, 2001
    September 11, 2001 was the day innocent people were attacked by Islamic terrorists. The planes crashed into the twin towers and the Pentagon and another was targeted at the United States Capitol but crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. Almost 3000 people died that day and the suspicion quickly drew to al-Qaeda. This day caused great damage and great pain.
  • War in Iraq/Afghanistan/Global War on Terrorism

    War in Iraq/Afghanistan/Global War on Terrorism
    The Global War on Terrorism was a result of the attack on September 11, 2001. It also resulted in a military attack to find and kill al-Qaeda. This war has caused many to die and is still going on to today.
