American settlers were destined to permeate throughout the country. Americans eventually occupied land from the east to the west coast. -

Mexico and the United States went to war. The United States gained a lot of land from California to Texas. -
Annexation of Hawaii
The U.S made Hawaii a State. This gave the United States 51 states. -
Spanish-American-Cuban War
The United States intervened with Spain's possession,Cuba. As a result, the United States and Spain went to war. -

The roosevelt corollary was an add on to the Monroe Doctrine. It made it more strict. -

The U.S joined the war in 1917. They were a major supplier to the allied powers. -

Isolationism is keeping out of other people's business unless their is threat to yourself. The United Staes practiced isolationism in both the World Wars. -

The U.s joined World War II when Peal Harbor was bomb. They continued in the war till the end when they bombed Japan. -
Truman Doctrine
The Truman Doctrine is a derivitive of a speech from Truman. In the speech, Truman predicated that the United States would assist Greece and Turkey with military and economic aid. -
Marshall Plan
The Marshall plan was much like the Truman Doctrine. It predicated that the United States would assisst Europe. -
Cold War
The United States and Russia were in a war with no violence. They both continued to aggresively strengthen their military weapons. -
Vietnam
The United States ultimately wanted to end communism, and North Vietnam was a communist nation that was threatnening the non-communist nation of South Vietnam. As a result the United States stepped in and tried to help South Vietnam in war against North Vietnam in an attempt to stop the spread of communism -
detente
Detente means relaxation. Detente is used to describe the time when the United States started to make agreements with the Soviet Union regarding the Cold War. -
Carter's emphasis on foreign policy
Carter recognized human rights abuses accrossed the world, and did what he could to stop them. He wanted the world to follow morals that didn't opress human rights. -
September 11, 2001
The United States was attacked by Al-queda with planes. The tradgedy was calamitious. Consequently the United States has followed stricter travel security. -
Iraq and Afganistan War
As a result of continued terrorist attacks, the United States elected to do what they could to stop terrorism. The United States moved into iraq and eventually afganistan. The ultimate goal was to stop global terrorism
